And the Beat Goes On
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Jeff had the good fortune to be exposed to a wide variety of cultures and music from as early as he can remember - AND THEN - like millions of others, the pivotal moment that changed everything was seeing that first Beatles performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. An already deep love for music suddenly exploded into a raging desire to play guitar, sing, write, and perform originals.
Jeff formed his first band in Elementary school, and went on to found many more there after. Years of musical endeavors led to building and operating Astral Sounds Recording studio, which opened for business in 1979, where he spent 5 happy years as owner, recording engineer, producer, and musician playing and singing on clients' projects. In the early 80s two of his bands The Feel, and later, The Money, became popular San Francisco Bay Area acts playing sold out shows opening for the likes of Huey Lewis and the News, The Tubes, and many more.
Jeff eventually sold his studio and relocated to the fabled 'Live Music' town of Austin, TX. Before doing so he co-formed the 5 piece band Blue Cartoon. All members sang, making for a lot of harmony and a BIG sound.
Austin Years - Shortly after Jeff moved to Austin, Blue Cartoon bassist Lee Elliott joined him in Texas where they set about reforming the band. Local musicians Barry Simon (drums/vocals) and John McElhenny (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) were enlisted to complete a reborn Blue Cartoon with a Texas twist. The band's 60s Brit Pop / 80s New Wave sound now included a Roots Rock / Power Pop vibe, thanks to the vision of Ron Flynt (20/20) whom produced BC's self titled debut. And so, the stage was set for the eventual release of 5 critically well received CDs, each with its own unique musical direction.
Fast forward - Presently Jeff resides in Asheville, NC and is working fulltime on writing, recording, and releasing new material, as well as old gems that have waited years for their moment to shine. -- Jeff's newest release, No Words for It is his first all instrumentals release. Fans of JEFF BECK, guitar hero rock, Prog, and Cinematic Rock will find the collection to be guitar forward, while sprinkled with some unexpected twists and turns to keep things interesting.
Several music projects are underway, with more new releases planned for 2024.
