From the recording A Touch of Country
I wrote the music for this song, and had the title of "It's Okay", but was having problems coming up with lyrics I felt were a good fit for telling the story. Luckily a good friend of mine (Bryan Reese) accepted my proposal that we collaborate so as to finish the song (two heads are better than one!). Bryan and I sat down a few times and came up with a variety of lines - eventually we fit them together in a way that I believe plainly makes the statement that love relationships aren't perfect, and probably aren't meant to be -- it's "okay" to have disagreements, and sometimes hurt feelings, but given time couples can learn how to rise above the things that two people can compromise on. Being alone isn't the answer - learning to love in a way that accepts understanding a long-term relationship will typically not be perfect can allow for mutual growth and nuture a love that is much more than just skin deep.
